Is a China visa still required if I’m just transiting through Beijing for 10 hours?

If you stay airside (don’t clear immigration), no visa is needed — regardless of nationality. But if you plan to leave the airport (e.g., for a quick city tour), you’ll need either:

  • A transit visa (G) — if your nationality isn’t eligible for 24/72/144-hour visa-free transit, or
  • Qualify for 144-hour visa-free transit (covers 20+ nationalities, including UAE, UK, US, Canada, Australia, GCC — but not Indian, Pakistani, or Bangladeshi passport holders, even with UAE residency).
